SoundTrack_Cologne is honored to announce the featured panelists of this year’s Composing for Film day on Friday, June 10, 2022.

These four renowned composers will join at SoundTrack_Cologne for an in-depth discussion of their careers, musical upbringing and influencesand their perspectives on creativity: HARPA Award Winner Sanna Salmenkallio, BAFTA and Oscar winner John Ottman (“Bohemian Rhapsody”), The Danish Robert Award laureate Jon Ekstrand (“Morbius”) and Ádám Balázs, composer of "Story of my Wife" and "On Body and Soul".

Sanna Salmenkallio

Sanna Salmenkallio is one of the most experienced film composers in Finland. She has composed the score for more than 30 films, won four Jussi Awards for the best film score in Finland and was awarded with the HARPA prize in 2022.

Salmenkallio has created her own style by mixing classical background to different contemporary and experimental elements. Her strength is a deep understanding of dramaturgy. She has also composed for theatre and dance. She has both a classical music education as a violinist and as a Sound Designer.

John Ottman

John Ottman is one of the most unique creatives in the film industry, holding dual distinctions as an Emmy nominated major film composer and a BAFTA and Oscar winning film editor.

Ottman often completed the monumental tasks of being both the editor and composer on films such as “The Usual Suspects”, “X-Men 2”, “Superman Returns”, “Valkyrie”,  “Xmen Days of Future Past”, “Xmen Apocalypse” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”. He has also held producer roles, as well as directing, editing and scoring „Urban Legends 2“. He recently directed an episode of “Star Trek Discovery”.

Jon Ekstrand

Jon Ekstrand is a Stockholm based Swedish film composer and artist. To date, Ekstrand has scored over 30 films and TV series, has been nominated for three Swedish Gullbaggage Awards, and in January 2020 was awarded the Danish FilmAkademiet’s Robert Award for his score to “Queen of Hearts”. At Film School.Ekstrand met Director Daniel Espinosa and formed a creative relationship which to this day led to seven collaborations, including the hit trilogy “Easy Money” as well as Hollywood Studio’s “Child 44,” “Life,” and the Marvel film “Morbius.” Jon is also scoring the 2022 biopic “Hilma” by Lasse Hallström.

Ádám Balázs

To date, Ádám Balázs scored sixty films, including Ildikó Enyedi’s Cannes Competition contender “Story of My Wife” and her Golden Bear winning and Academy Award-nominated “On Body and Soul”, Kristóf Deák’s Academy Award-winning “Sing”, Seth Grossman’s Tribeca Film Festival winner “Shock Act” and “The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations” (Lionsgate), over a thousand episodes of TV including HBO Europe’s “Terápia” (In Treatment”) and “Umbre” (“Shadows”).

Balázs is a Professor of Film Music at the Budapest Zenakademie He studied Music Composition at the Béla Bartók Conservatory of Music and holds a Master in Medieval English Literature.
